Community voices serve as “sirens” for social health justice; often underserved African-Americans are physically “invisible” when solutions for devising accessible health care plans are proposed by policymakers. Too many people of color are impacted by both co-morbidity and mortality and yet find a way out of the health care despair labyrinth. In order to improve the overall health of our communities, we must identify and eliminate health disparities, focus on educating our communities on prevalent health issues and prevention methods, while emphasizing the importance of self-care and self-empowerment.
